Poetry Appreciation 101
This one is courtesy of the fridge in my friend Dave's Nana Flo's house in Yonkers:
Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better
To paint a picture or write a letter,
Bake a cake or plant a seed.
Ponder the difference between want and need.
Dust if you must, but there's not much time,
With rivers to swim and mountains to climb,
Music to hear and books to read,
Friends to cherish and life to lead.
Dust if you must, but the world's out there
With the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair,
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain.
This day will not come around again.
Dust if you must, but bear in mind,
Old age will come and it's not kind.
And when you go and go you must,
You, yourself, will make more dust.
Remember, a house becomes a home when you can write "I love you"
on the furniture....

The Summer of Delaney
In the spirit of Seinfeld, I've decided to call this the Summer of Delaney since most of what we do is geared towards what she would think is fun.
The bonus is that we are getting to enjoy summer like we are kids again, too.
Thus far, strawberry picking with Grammy has been a big highlight. Delaney, of course, loved eating the fresh berries right off the bush.
And by the end of it, she looked like a murder accomplice.
We've been hitting the beach, the lake, our camp, the playground, the ice cream stand, the outdoor concerts. The fun never stops around here these days!

Delaney has become accustomed to the summer time way of life.

AshXanga Yoga
John, you bring up a great point. AshXanga Yoga would be the best! I always think of fantastic things to post about when I'm in the middle of a yoga class, but somewhere between the studio and my computer it always gets lost. If there were computer terminals right there next to our mats - or better yet a little yogic guy who was meditating and could read your thoughts and just transmit them onto your site. Now, that would be something!

Ashtanga
I am ADDICTED to Ashtanga Yoga. I think Ashtanga is Sanskrit for "kick the white girl's ass", but I love it.

A license for a little laziness
So, with my first baby, I made almost all
of her baby food from scratch and just assumed that jar food was not as nutritous or tasty. I'd heat up my little ice cube trays of squash and peas to just the right temperature and mix in some nice rice cereal. Now with my second baby, I had to start right off the bat with some jar food and he usually has to eat in cold because we are in the car or at camp or at the beach or somewhere where there is no microwave for miles. Today I was feeling a little guilty about not making any baby food for David so I decided to boil and mash some carrots that were just about to start rotting in the back of my fridge anyway.
When I was all done making the homemade carrot mush, I decided to give myself an ego boost and see how colorful the homeade carrot mush was compared to jar food.
As you can see - there is ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE! I am free to feed David all the jar food in the world!! I'm so excited. Especially after the second batch of carrots turned out like this because I forgot they were boiling all the stove and all the water evaporated......

Where the heck have I been???
Wow, it has been almost a month since my last post. My only excuse is that it is summer and I have been "carpe dieming it up". The weather is beautiful, we have lots to do, and Delaney's bedtime has somehow shifted to 10pm from 8pm. So I usually put her to bed and then just fall into my own bed now. So.....let's see...um, I went to a wedding in
Bimmington, NY where and I had too much to drink and then helped lead cheers from the balcony where my friends and I were sequestered, danced with the bride's gay hairdresser and then played "wing-woman" for my single friend Jay since Jonathan was at home. But it was such a blast to hang out with the gang again. I'm posting this picture because I thought I was being so good and documenting all the Ithaca people at the wedding. Then when I got home I realized that the bride and groom are not in the picture. Oh well, you can't win them all.

If I ran the world.... Part III
The hairs that fall out of your head throughout the day and in the shower would only be the gray ones.

Rainy Day Fun
Yesterday was about the third rainy day in a row, but Delaney made the most of having fun indoors. She raided my closet for high heels and carted 3 of David's diapers around in this basket for about 20 minutes.
When that got boring, she wanted to hold David.
Notice the pink highlighter on her eyelid. That was another fun game. Then we played butterflies.
