  • Me and Condoleezza

So last night I had a dream that I was bar hopping with Condoleezza Rice in Georgetown.  She was supposedly interviewing me to be her new assistant, but she kept leaving the bar and I was constantly having to chase her down.  I started to get frustrated because I thought she was trying to ditch me, but then she told me it was part of the interview.  Since she is so busy and always sneaking off to meet with dignitaries and such, she needs an assistant who can keep up with her.  In a rare moment when Condoleezza did sit with me, I took advantage of a dark smoky corner to tell Condy that I felt bad for her a little bit.  I mean Nancy Pelosi gets to be Speaker of the House and she has a week long party and tons of press.  What did Condy get?? Nuthin'.

Condoleezza, in her ever diplomatic way, didn't say anything to bad mouth Pelosi.  She just smiled.

    I got the job though.

  • More Christmas Card failures

    100_2668

Visiting Santa at the Bank was not as popular with the kids as I thought it would be.

When we got home, Delaney stopped being naked long enough to pull two stockings down and try them on.  She also found this crazy Santa baseball cap.  She came around the corner and said, "Hey Guys! Look I have on Santa's socks!!"

  • No Christmas Cards this year

It's official - I'm not sending Christmas cards this year.

After two separate photo sessions of the kids (including a bath and trying to dress them in holiday outfits) that ending in all three of us sweaty, screaming and crying, I have given up!  I suddenly realized, why am I putting so much time and effort into this?

If anyone complains, or out right asks me for a Christmas card, I will simply remind them that I have a one year old and a two year old and then I will calmly refer them to this link.

    HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

November 21, 2006

  • David is one year old!  And as I sat eating breakfast with him at 5am this morning, I was struck by how much babies accomplish in a year.  To put it in perspective:  last year, at 5am on November 21st, I was cracking jokes with the nurses in the pre-op room ("it's not your first day, right!??!") and David couldn't even breathe oxygen!  He was still en utero.  And now, one year later, he's sitting here at the kitchen table "feeding himself" oatmeal.  It's a tremendous accomplishment.

Even if I had twenty kids, I don't think I would ever cease to be amazed at how QUICKLY they grow from a little blob who cannot even uncross their eyes to a human being who can actually function!

It can make you feel a bit lazy - what have YOU accomplished this year?

  • Can't think for myself, never mind dress

I've spent two months "sleep training" my kids only to end up with a horrible bout of insomnia.  My kids are sleeping, but I'm getting up for the day at 2 and 3 am.  It's sick!

I mean seriously, I'm sitting here in sweater that is inside out.

I weaned Delaney from nursing so I could start drinking again.  It looks like I may have to wean David so I can take Tylenol PM.  What is wrong with me????????????

  • I've written before about how much I love Yoga (especially the AshXanga Yoga).  But now that I have been at it for a few months, I am getting pretty good at it - if I do say so myself.  Which has made me realize just what a competitive person I am.

The thing I don't like about Yoga is that there are no medals, no ribbons, no winners.  Not even comments from the teacher like "You are the best balancer in the class" or "That was the best headstand you've ever done".  Come on!  Tell me I'm a natural!  Tell me you've never seen someone get so good so fast.  Tell me I should drop everything and move to India to study Yoga more diligently!  SOMETHING!!!!!

Aaaah, but alas - I believe I'm missing the whole point!

  • If this guy started a cult...

    I WOULD JOIN!

He has saved my life.  Both my kids are getting 2-3 more hours of sleep per day since I started reading this book.  And more sleep equals less tantrums!

Hospitals should be handing this book out with each new baby delivered.
