Because of days like these when you find lighthouses...
and "baby crabs" in tide pools...
and good rocks to climb...
and passing the secrets of snail hunting from mother to daughter....
Crazy, crazy day. I'd prefer to record it simply, a la Bridget Jones's Diary....
Kids who peed the bed 2, kids who peed on the floor 2, Loads of laundry 6, Delaney Time Outs 6 (v.b), Number of messages that accrued on answering machine since I could not answer due to one screaming child or another 5, articles of clothing pooped on so badly that I just threw them out 2, alcohol units 1 (right now while I'm typing)
I wish you could return all the food your toddler throws on the floor and/or feeds to the dog and get your money back.
Tonight as we were cooking dinner, I had one of those moments where you float out of
your body and see yourself from above. Or maybe as passerbys would view you. And I realized that for a moment, in this one corner of our yard, we are white trash! So, naturally, I had Jonathan take a picture. Instead of hiding it from the world (or taking other pictures of the nice parts of our house), I will put it on the world wide web to make sure no one misses it!
Here are the White Trash aspects that the common observer might miss:
1. We are grilling in the driveway. With the garage door open. Next to a sandbox.
2. We are grilling a Kielbasa. The frozen peas and corn from a bag are cooking inside on the stove.
3. Yes, that is a trailer behind the grill. A homemade trailer that Jonathan bought from some guy by the side of the road.
4. Delaney is wearing a crazy concoction of an outfit that she picked out herself. David is crying as he is propped up in the stroller.
5. We have a hound dog.
6. We have a pile of scrap wood in the top right hand corner of the pic. Complete with a broken sled.
I don't know why I think this is so hilarious. I don't know why I love to make fun of myself.
I hope every ex-boyfriend I ever had "googles" me and finds this picture. "aaahh, the one who got away," they will say to themselves.....................
I wish you could return all the rotten food in your fridge at the store and get your money back.
This year I didn't get too into Easter until it was already here. I didn't decorate the house, buy candy, give the kids presents, hide eggs, dye eggs, bake cookies or anything. I just wasn't in the mood. Then when Easter arrived, we had a great day at my parents' house complete with Easter baskets for the kids and an outdoor easter egg hunt which Delaney loved. I found myself left with the same feeling I used to get on Parents' Weekends in college. For the weeks leading up to them, I'd call my parents and say "don't come, don't make the long trip, it's stupid, pointless, all a marketing ploy etc. etc." Then, when Parents' Weekend would arrive, I'd spend the whole weekend moping around campus looking at the other kids and their parents wishing mine were there.
So my new addictions this week are YOGA and www.freecycle.org. I can't get enough of either one! I've gone to Yoga every night this week. And after my recent debacle on eBay, I am spending any free time not at a yoga class to search my house for crap that some one else might come by and just pick up!
The weather has been too beautiful to do much else.
David has this little chair that props him up and it is so flippin' cute. He looks like a little old man.
David's little smiles melt my heart and I'm secretly relieved every time that he accomplishes the baby milestones on time or early in spite of the fact that he does not get a fraction of the attention that Delaney did. But, as my ever-wise mother always points out, he gets a "different kind of attention". Namely, attention from his older sister. In fact yesterday, Delaney was putting on a show for him in the kitchen. She was jumping and flailing and yelling "David, Laney JUMP!" All of sudden, I froze when I heard the laughter of a grown man. I was sure we were home alone. Then I heard it again - a deep, deep laugh. I suddenly realized that it was David laughing his very first out loud laugh. Delaney was cracking him up!
It was a sweet moment that instantly erased all the midnight feedings and incision pain thus far. It's amazing how nature takes care of that!
Ahhh, the beauty of blogging. How else could you get a picture of the men in your life in bed on the World Wide Web (remember when they called it the Information Superhighway?). I love this picture because David looks so cute and Jonathan looks so drunk.
I just was reminded of something I wanted to write about. EATING. I have been noticing a trend of dieting/anorexic girls on Xanga who just write lists of the things they eat throughout the day and it usually only consists of gum and lots of Diet Coke. This is repulsive. It makes me so sad and angry. And it seems very widespread. So, just in case some impressionable teen girls come across my blog, I want to make a list of everything I've eaten today to show that you need to eat actual food. Lots of it. Every day.
For the record, I'm not a fatty. I'm 5' 7" and weigh 130 pounds. I'm 6 months pregnant in my profile picture - so don't use that as a reference.
Here's my "food diary" for today (keep in mind it is only 3:45 pm so I am nowhere near done eating.) I'm just gearing up - "priming the pump" as my friend Monica would say.
Breakfast:
1 whole entire grapefruit, two fried eggs with 3 slices of cheese on a slice of wheat toast, glass of OJ and 2.5 cups of coffee
Snack:
Granola bar
Lunch:
Turkey and cheese sandwich with mustard. Two handfuls of "Quakes" chips, water and half of Delaney's PB&J.
Snack:
Several handfuls of m&m's
Second Lunch:
A big piece of Chicken Pot Pie left over from last night.
I guess I should note here that I am nursing, which requires that you eat an extra 500 calories. But still girls, please eat.
