Stainless is to the early 2000′s as Avocado is to the 1970′s!
Stainless is to the early 2000′s as Avocado is to the 1970′s!
I just realized this when shopping for a new fridge recently. EVERYTHING is stainless steel. Everyone I know is “upgrading” to stainless appliances. All of a sudden, as I was
strollingchasing my two kids through the appliance section of Sears last night, I realized that Stainless is the new Avocado.Our kids are going to grow up and say “ugh – my parents have one of those old-fashioned kitchens where everything is stainless steel, you know?”
So our new fridge is black!

cool you have a Darth Vader Fridge. but i love the observation. i think you are correct in that stainless is the new avacado. however, i think that today’s design choices have a timeless appeal to them especially with the stainless exteriors. time will tell. it will be interesting to see what appliances will look like in 30 years…
I have to agree so all my stuff that registered for is RED! (I got it all too so my kitchen is completely decked out) I thought it might be a timeless color without the cold hard look of stainless steel. We also bought a white fridge because let’s be honest STAINLESS IS EXPENSIVE!!!
Ah yes, we have stainless steel…came with the house and the kitchen was newly remodeled! It’s so hard to keep clean. So is my black/stainless steel oven!

haha! isn’t that strange how things change just so suddenly? similar to what you said, black and white tv was the thing back in the 40′s but now, it’s all about HD tvs!

somehow having a white fridge and calling it “stormtrooper” or a stainless steel and calling it “R2D2″ doesn’t resonate like a black fridge i.e. “Darth Vader”….
I think in most homes it’s unusual to have something so massive and black in the kitchen. The standard is white or beige. I however, have a black and stainless steel fridge. No issues with cleaning it. I can’t imagine having white again.
mine is white. even when every other color was “in”, i still choose white.
I can remember living in an apartment that still had an aweful orange fridge. Then someone gave us a table that was avacado. Our kitchen/dining area looked like carrot and green bean baby spew. It was AWESOME.

LoL! Well, I don’t think stainless is as bad as Avocado though so hopefully, whenever I have kids that is, my kids will actually like stainless.
But black is a good, neutral color for a fridge, just in case.

Funny – I’m sure you could find someone to do what you’re asking for. I have a Darth Vader mask that does exactly that… Can’t keep anything cold in the mask though! =P
